Manufacturer:
Bayer Schering Pharma
Pharmaceutical name:
Vardenafil
Levitra (Vardenafil) is classified as a phosphodiesterase inhibitor. It functions by aiding in the relaxation of muscles and enhancing blood flow to the penis during sexual arousal, which allows men to both achieve and sustain an erection. Levitra is prescribed for the treatment of erectile dysfunction (impotence).
Avoid taking Levitra if you are also using nitrate medications for chest pain or heart-related issues (such as nitroglycerin). If you experience dizziness, nausea, or any pain, numbness, or tingling in your chest, arms, neck, or jaw during sexual activity, cease and immediately inform your doctor. This could be an indicator of a serious side effect related to Levitra. Contact your healthcare provider or seek emergency medical assistance if you experience painful erections or if an erection persists for more than 4 hours. A prolonged erection (priapism) may result in penile damage.
To ensure the safe use of Levitra, inform your doctor if you have any of the following conditions: heart disease, rhythm disorders, high or low blood pressure, seizures, liver disease, kidney disease (or if you are undergoing dialysis), blood cell disorders such as sickle cell anemia, multiple myeloma, leukemia, bleeding disorders like hemophilia, a stomach ulcer, vision or hearing impairments, a history of vision loss, eye conditions like retinitis pigmentosa (an inherited eye condition), any physical deformity of the penis (such as Peyronie's disease), or if you have been advised against sexual activity for health reasons.
Levitra may reduce blood flow to the optic nerve, leading to sudden vision loss. This has been observed in a small number of individuals taking vardenafil, particularly those with underlying heart conditions, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or existing eye issues, especially among smokers or individuals over 50 years old. It is unclear whether Levitra is the direct cause of this vision loss. Discontinue use of Levitra and seek immediate medical attention if you experience sudden vision loss.
Levitra is not intended for use by women, as it is uncertain whether Vardenafil passes into breast milk or could be harmful to a nursing infant. Do not use this medication without consulting your doctor if you are breastfeeding.
